Product Engineer, Semiconductors, Ottawa, Canada — Remote opportunity for US candidates

Job Description

Our client is a global leader in power semiconductors with a broad portfolio of transistors that addresses the needs of today’s most demanding industries, including data center servers, renewable energy systems, automotive, industrial motors, and consumer electronics. Due to company growth, they are adding a Product Engineer to their team. This position can be remote for US candidates with occasional travel to the team in Ottawa.

As a Product Engineer, you will analyze the probe/final data using data analysis techniques to find potentially bad products before shipping to customers. This includes: design new test plans for the new products, analyze the existing ones using existing screening methods, or provide innovative ideas to find out root cause of any problem in the manufacturing process. You will interact with design/operations/Fabs to support continuous yield improvements in Company products. You will develop screening techniques, procedures, and capabilities to further enhance the product’s yield in addition to meet the qualification requirements. It is part of your job to bring innovative ideas to reduce production costs by changing the screening methods. As a Product Engineer, you will be part of the production group, performing product related issues of Company products and dealing with customers.

Specific Duties Include

  • Provide detailed analysis of production test results.
  • Provide detailed status reports at each phase, test limit (guard band), correlation and yield summary reports.
  • Analyze the probe test/ final test data and do mavericks part elimination (MPE) techniques to remove outliers.
  • Perform product yield enhancement.
  • Identify causes of low yield through systematic analysis.
  • Work closely with various engineering groups to resolve process/defects related issues.
  • Perform electrical/physical failure analysis to understand the failure mechanism relating to defects / fab process.
  • Utilize statistical tools for detailed data analysis on product to drive yield improvement projects.
  • Drive cost reduction activities such as reduction of screening, yield improvement, test time reduction, etc.
  • Maintain close interaction with Product Test Engineering team and communicate technical product status to management.
  • Follow up with Foundries and test subcontractors/test houses to resolve all production issues.
  • Provide product development support which involves interfacing with design, test engineering, quality engineering and others.
  • Contribute to project plans by providing time-scale estimates.
  • Manage own time and assigned resources to meet timescales and quality objective.

Required Skills

  • Sc./M.Sc. in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Min. 2+ years of experience in a semiconductor company.
  • Semiconductor technology and process knowledge.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication process.
  • Proficient in at least one statistical analysis tool (JMP, spotfire, Vidas, etc.)
  • Good understanding of data analysis techniques.
  • Experience in python programming.
  • Ability to work well in cross functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and pay close attention to detail.
  • Covid-19 vaccination required
