Power Electronics Engineer, semiconductor reliability test platforms, Ottawa, Canada

Job Description

Our client is a global leader in power semiconductors with a broad portfolio of transistors that addresses the needs of today’s most demanding industries, including data center servers, renewable energy systems, automotive, industrial motors, and consumer electronics.

As a key player in the reliability team, the Power Electronics Engineer will work with the Reliability Engineer team to design/ develop/ build/ set up/troubleshoot the next generation of switching testing platforms. In addition, they will help optimize and automate the existing testing platforms to improve the measurement accuracy during the stress test and throughput.

Specific Duties Include

  • Analyze, develop, and optimize power electronics topologies and circuits for switching reliability tests.
  • Improve the existing reliability testing platforms with ways to monitor in-situ parameters such as leakage more accurately.
  • Use schematic and layout tools to generate PCB designs.
  • Provide clear documentation to help assembly house and internal assembler build testing platforms on scale.
  • Write technical manual on how to set up the new platforms and training lab technicians on the setup and routine testings.
  • New topologies and applications research.
  • Control design.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher degree in Power Electronics.
  • Some design knowledge of power semiconductor devices including gate driver design, turn-on/off switching behavior, miller effect, circuit parasitic, and loss calculation.
  • Good understanding of different topologies (half/full bridge, PFC, inverter, and resonant circuit such as LLC/PSFB), and power electronics control theory.
  • Familiarity with at least one calculation/simulation and PCB design tool.
  • Experience with LabVIEW is preferred.
